When Your Rand Starts To Go

Climbing Shoe Cobbling

The rand might not get the glory the sole does, but it’s the unsung hero keeping your shoe’s entire shape in check. Once that thin band starts to peel back or tear, your fit can go from precise to sloppy in a single session. UK grit, sharp granite, and gym toe-dragging all take their toll.

Early signs include toe bulging, soft spots, or that annoying moment when you can actually feel the rock through the side of your shoe. If you catch it early, repairing the rand is a straightforward job. But once the hole gets through to the leather or lining, it becomes a bigger surgery – still fixable, just a bit more involved.

In the workshop, we remove the damaged section, rebuild the toe with fresh material, and blend it into the original shape. Done right, the shoe ends up feeling almost identical to how it did straight out of the box, but with a bit more life ahead of it.

Don’t wait until your toe looks like it’s trying to escape – send your shoes to us for a clean, tidy rand repair and keep them climbing far longer.
